Public Disco Launches New Summer Series in Gastown

This summer, Public Disco joins forces with the Gastown Business Improvement Association to present a brand new music series set in the heart of Vancouver’s most storied neighbourhood. Gastown Streetside Sessions brings laid-back DJ programming to the patios and storefronts of Gastown every Sunday as part of the car-free Gastown initiative, a weekly transformation of the streets into pedestrian-first public space.

From Powell Street to Richards and Water, the series will feature three rotating music zones staged outside select cafés and community hubs, including Monaco Café, Milano, and Coffee Bar. Each zone offers its own distinct vibe—some smooth and atmospheric, others upbeat and expressive—with lineups curated to reflect the diversity of Vancouver’s local music scene.

Programming is designed with intention: each session moves through a natural arc, shifting in tone and energy to match the rhythm of a summer afternoon. Some locations will serve as returning anchors throughout the series, while others will rotate to spotlight new corners of Gastown and strengthen connections with local businesses.

Curators and DJs from collectives like TableTutors, B-Side Radio, and other community-rooted crews will help shape the sound of each day, bringing a sense of place, discovery, and groove to the streets.

This partnership is about more than music—it’s a civic gesture. Projects like this reclaim public space from cars and return it to people. They invite us to experience the city differently, to connect through culture, and to bring life back to the street in creative, meaningful ways.
