Public Disco Expands Free Block Party on Granville Island to Two Days on June 7 & 8
For immediate release: May 6, 2025
Vancouver, B.C. – Due to immense community support and attendance of over 6,500 in 2024, Public Disco has announced its first-ever free two-day Block Party. Presented by Granville Island, it will be held in Lot 55 on Saturday, June 7 from 2 to 10pm and on Sunday, June 8 from 2 to 9pm. Saturday will feature genres spanning house, disco, and garage, and Sunday will showcase Latinx music styles including salsa, dembow, guaracha, and Latin tech. The all-ages, fully-licensed, two-day event will kick off Public Disco’s 2025 Summer Block Parties presented by 2 Hoots Hard Iced Tea.
“As our city processes recent tragic events, we’re reminded how vital it is to keep showing up—together. Public space is where we gather not only to celebrate, but to connect, reflect, and care for one another,” says Nickolas Collinet, Executive Director of Public Disco Society. “As we launch our 2025 Block Party on Granville Island, we do so with compassion. We’re curating two days of music and culture that honour the diverse communities that make Vancouver what it is, while continuing our commitment to provide audiences with a collective sense of belonging.”
Saturday’s Block Party is curated by G-Luve, and traces the legacy of disco through house, garage, and beyond. Attendees can experience a sonic journey on the Fizz Mobile Stage with local DJs Donna Dada, Tyler Stadius, G-Luve, Innezz, and Josephine La Noire. Day two brings new sounds to the Public Disco dance floor, curated by Brendocha of Gateo and hosted by Kachonda. Attendees can dance to a celebration of Latinx music as DJs highlight the sounds that get people moving across continents and through generations. DJs include Escobutt, Daniel Rincón, Binky, Brendocha, Sayo, and Nikki Kush. Sunday will also feature beginner Salsa and Cumbia classes led by queer focused, Salseo.
“We are delighted to welcome the amazing Public Disco back to Granville Island! We look forward to hosting this two-day, all ages, diverse celebration of music and free spirit” says Tom Lancaster, General Manager, Granville Island. “Granville Island is committed to ensuring the safety of everyone here, providing slow streets and pedestrian-only zones for our festivals as Granville Island continues to be a critically important and special place for people to gather to celebrate all of our cultures and communities.”
The two-day Block Party on Granville Island will be fully licensed with pop-up bars and food trucks, including Mexican food from Los Elotes and Alimentaria Mexicana and Venezuelan street food from Romero's Artisan on Sunday. Public Disco’s beer partner, Phillips Brewing, will offer a selection of their fan-favourite beers, including their non-alcoholic iOTA brand and will also be running a dedicated “Dinosour World” activation that features Dinosour beer sampling and a Dinosour bar. The event is family-friendly, and kids' face painting and colouring station will be provided by Pattern Nation. The Block Party is accessible, located on flat concrete, will have wheelchair-accessible washrooms, quiet areas, and picnic tables available for seating. Public Disco is grateful for the support from Creative BC, the City of Vancouver, and Granville Island.
