Public Disco Closes Out 2026 Summer with Free All-Vinyl Block Party at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl'e7énḵ Square
Public Disco will close out its 2026 Summer Block Parties with a free, all-ages celebration on Saturday, August 29 at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl'e7énḵ Square (750 Hornby St), from 2:00 to 10:00pm. The event returns to one of Downtown Vancouver's most iconic gathering spaces, with a thoughtfully curated line up of DJs playing only vinyl, a record market, pop-up bars, vintage market, food vendors, and kids' activities.
"This summer has shown us, again, what happens when you open up public space and fill it with music,” says Nickolas Collinet, Executive Director of Public Disco Society. “We're closing out the season the way we started it: free, all ages, and built around community."
The lineup is curated by Dairy Free, a dig-savvy DJ known for off-kilter tech house, techno, and bass selections. The day's programming includes Pacific Coliseum (aka Teen Daze), a producer and DJ from Chilliwack, BC, known for dreamy, balearic house music; AWood, a groove-driven house and techno DJ marking their first solo vinyl release with this set; Anika, whose club-centred sound draws on bossa nova, soul, jazz, and disco; and Serena S b2b Ian Prentice, a Vancouver back-to-back set pairing Serena S's experimental, genre-spanning selections with Ian Prentice's storytelling journey through disco, italo-disco, techno, synth pop, and house.
"Vibrancy is key to a great downtown, and our city is at its best when our public spaces come alive with music, culture, and community,” says Jane Talbot, President & CEO of Downtown Van. “Events like the Public Disco Block Party create opportunities for people to connect, discover local talent, support downtown businesses, and enjoy everything our city has to offer.”
Attendees can browse a record market featuring local shops, labels and collectors, including Painted Lady, Dandelion Records, Cool Underground Music, Bald Society, Not Even Down, Paranoise, Tacophonica and Weirdos Inc. Additionally, the block party will showcase a vintage and thrift market curated by Granville Flea, featuring Doomed Decade, Ajs Curated, The Gates BC, Variety Bin, Got It For Cheap, Shoot First Vintage, Newtown Vintage, Shop Woven, Convivial, Avantini.Shop, and Thrift2go.
Food vendors on-site include Chai Wagon, Taco Tigre, Yo Bones, Japadog, and Magical Ring Donuts. The block party will be fully licensed offering both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at the Public Disco bar sponsored by 604Now and Dinosour bar by Phillips Brewing. Families can enjoy dedicated kids' programming presented by Pattern Nation, along with a Play Zone hosted by Viva Entertainment.
The plaza is accessible, located on flat concrete, and offers wheelchair-accessible washrooms, picnic tables, quiet areas, and open spaces to relax.
